A serious pedestrian accident has left a man with critical injuries in Chelsea, Massachusetts. On Tuesday, a 30-year-old Malden resident was struck by a vehicle near Second Street, close to the Market Basket entrance. The injured man was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is currently in critical condition, NBC Boston reports.
The collision occurred around 4:20 p.m. when the man was running across the street. Authorities have not disclosed whether he was in a crosswalk. The driver was also taken to the hospital for evaluation, according to the Massachusetts State Police, the Chelsea Police Department, and WCVB.
The victim’s name has not been released. Chelsea police detectives and the Massachusetts State Police Accident Reconstruction Team are investigating the cause of the accident.
Following the incident, Second Street was temporarily closed. The driver remained at the scene, and it is unclear whether any charges will be filed. The investigation is ongoing.
