A deadly confrontation in a Mandeville neighborhood ended with a woman injured and her boyfriend dead after intervention from a neighbor, early Monday morning. WWLTV reports that St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies were called to the scene of the shooting on Richland Drive in the Greenleaves subdivision, where they found a woman with stab wounds and the deceased man lying in a front yard around 3 a.m.
The woman had apparently fled from a nearby home through a window after being assaulted by her boyfriend, Shawn Quinn, age 49, her escape was however short-lived as Quinn pursued her outside which prompted a neighborhood resident to confront the assailant demanding he halt the attack but when Quinn persisted the neighbor resorted to using his firearm, this account aligns with the details released by both WDSU and the Nola.com coverage of the incident.
Quinn, who suffered fatal gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead at the scene, St. Tammany Parish Coroner Christopher Tape confirmed the identity of the deceased and labeled the death as a homicide, which as he noted “doesn't automatically include the presumption of a criminal act,” as noted by WWLTV. The injured woman was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.
"This was a violent and extremely dangerous situation that unfolded in a local neighborhood during early morning hours,” Sheriff Randy Smith issued a statement, which asserted a belief that the neighbor’s prompt response may have prevented even greater harm or additional loss of life; detectives still have to complete their thorough investigation, ensuring absolute scrutiny of all the aspects involving this case, according to Nola.com.
