The manhunt continues for an escaped Rockdale County inmate, Timothy Shane, 52, after he evaded capture from Grady Memorial Hospital early Monday. Shane, described by authorities as armed and dangerous, was last spotted wearing a red hoodie, blue pants, and is now believed to have shoes, per the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office.
Following his escape, Shane's actions have included crashing a stolen SUV and requesting an Uber to a residence in south Rockdale County, as FOX 5 Atlanta reported. Authorities disclosed that they discovered the vehicle Shane was driving, a silver Pontiac Grand Prix, abandoned in a Publix parking lot in Henry County.
Atlanta News First recently presented new dashcam footage and provided details of Shane's escape, including his initial arrest on Nov. 23, when Atlanta News First says he was charged with multiple offenses. These charges stem from a high-speed chase, during which Shane allegedly kidnapped a woman, demanding she withdraw money from an ATM for him and instructed her to wipe his fingerprints off a gun, claims that have been corroborated by police records.
Grady Memorial Hospital, where Shane was being treated under law enforcement custody at the time of his escape, said custodial agencies are required to maintain one-to-one oversight of inmates and referred further questions to the sheriff’s office. An Uber spokesperson told Atlanta News First that the company is cooperating with investigators and has suspended Shane’s account.
Crime Stoppers Greater Atlanta is offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to Shane's capture. Rockdale County Sheriff’s Lt. Billy Burrell said deputies are not going to stop looking and urged Shane to turn himself in. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office at 770-278-8000, email [email protected], or call 911.
