As Mankato residents prepare to ring in the New Year, the City of Mankato is reminding the community of changes to city services due to the New Year's Day holiday. In a recent social media post, the City of Mankato Government announced that all city offices will be closed on Thursday, Jan. 1.
Because of the holiday, there will be no bus service provided by the city that day. In addition, the regular Thursday garbage and recycling collection is set to be significantly adjusted. The post stated, "No garbage/recycling pick-up on Thursday, Jan. 1." Residents who usually have their waste collected on Thursdays will need to hold onto their bins a bit longer, as services will not resume until the following day. To quickly manage the backlog, the city has decided to slide the schedule, picking up Thursday's garbage and recycling on Friday, Jan. 2.
Friday collections will also face a slight delay with a knock-on effect from the previous day's shift. Those who typically see their garbage and recycling removed on Fridays can expect their pick-up to occur on Saturday, Jan. 3. This staggered approach is aimed at ensuring that all residents will still receive service, albeit on a different timeline than usual.
The City of Mankato has provided contact information for those with questions or concerns regarding the service changes. Citizens are encouraged to reach out to city staff at 311 or on the direct line at 507-387-8600. As people prepare to celebrate the arrival of the new year, accommodating these changes ensures that city services will continue to operate, even as schedules are temporarily reconfigured. It's important to plan to avoid any confusion or disruption that might otherwise emerge during the holiday period.
