In a significant development within Maricopa County's fight against human trafficking, the County Attorney, Rachel Mitchell, confirmed the indictment of Dennis Mitchell Jr., after his arrest last month for alleged crimes, including child sex trafficking and aggravated assault; this announcement was made via an official statement on the Maricopa County Attorney's office website.
Mitchell, born in December 1983, was detained at a Phoenix motel situated in what locals refer to as "the blade," notorious for its prostitution activities, after a 14-year-old girl sought help following an altercation where she reported Mitchell had hit her; the encounter led authorities to a broader investigation that uncovered another adult female also entangled in the exploitative situation.
The array of charges against Mitchell includes one count of Child Sex Trafficking, classified as a Class Two Felony and regarded as a Dangerous Crime Against Children, along with other offenses such as Aggravated Assault, Pandering, and Receiving Earnings of a Prostitute; each adding to the severity of Mitchell's current legal predicament as indicated by the County Attorney's statement.
Being held on a $150,000 cash bond, Mitchell's trial is scheduled for April 2026, allowing time for the due process of law to unfold, where a criminal charge is, according to the Maricopa County Attorney's office, an accusation - with the defendant maintaining the presumption of innocence until proven guilty, a fundamental tenet of the United States justice system.
