A Marshfield man has been taken into police custody after deceiving elderly residents at the Linden Ponds senior living complex. Kevaughn R. Fagan, 28, allegedly posed as a ride-share driver to enter the complex and a junk removal worker inside, in a scheme to steal and fraudulently use a credit card belonging to one of the residents.
According to the Hingham Police's social media post, the scheme came to light on December 7, when a resident reported his credit card missing and later discovered it had been used several times the previous day. The suspect had allegedly taken advantage of an unlocked apartment to commit the theft.
Detectives quickly gathered surveillance footage and testimonials from multiple Linden Ponds residents. Fagan reportedly approached residents while masquerading as a junk removal professional, inquiring if they needed any furniture removed, and in one case entering an occupied apartment under the pretense of removing a bureau before hastily retreating.
The ploy ended last Sunday when Fagan returned to the complex claiming again to be ride-share driver, sporting the same attire and driving the same vehicle identified in previous incidents. Staff, suspicious of his activities, notified authorities who promptly arrested the repeat visitor mid-deception. The suspect's car was seized, and officers uncovered property that could implicate Fagan further.
Fagan faces several charges, including Larceny Over $250 from a Person Over Sixty and multiple counts related to Breaking and Entering. He was held on a $10,000 cash bail at the Plymouth County House of Correction and was arraigned at Hingham District Court on Monday. Hingham Police have indicated that the investigation remains active, with the possibility of additional charges forthcoming, and they urge anyone with information to contact Detective Heather Hermida at 781-741-1443.
