A stabbing incident at a Macy's store in New York City has resulted in the arrest of a Massachusetts woman. Kerri Aherne, 43, of Tewksbury, stands charged with attempted murder, assault, and criminal possession of a weapon after an altercation on Thursday afternoon. According to WCVB, the assault took place around 3:13 p.m. at the Macy's located at 1440 Broadway.
The victim, a 38-year-old woman, was reportedly changing her infant's diaper in the restroom when Aherne allegedly attacked her from behind. The New York City Police Department informed that Aherne stabbed the woman multiple times in the back and on her arm. The encounter, noted by officials to be unprovoked, is currently under investigation. Following the incident, the victim was taken to a local hospital and is said to be in stable condition. A Macy's spokesman expressed the company's distress over the event, "We are deeply saddened about the incident that took place today as the safety of our customers and colleagues is our top priority," as mentioned by MassLive.
Thankfully, the 10-month-old child involved in this harrowing ordeal was not harmed. Police have reported no further information regarding the motivations behind the attack or any additional details pending the ongoing investigation. Aherne is scheduled to appear in a New York court today.
