The MBTA has announced a temporary suspension of Orange Line services between Back Bay and Forest Hills scheduled for the upcoming weekend. Riders should anticipate this change starting all day on Friday and continuing through Saturday, with regular services slated to resume on Sunday, according to a statement from the transit authority.

The suspension is part of ongoing signal upgrades and modernization efforts to improve efficiency and scheduling reliability. The MBTA will also perform station maintenance, including cleaning, signage replacement, plumbing repairs, pump room work, and window replacements.

Affected Orange Line travelers can use free shuttle buses between the suspended stations. MBTA also recommends the Commuter Rail, which offers fare-free service between Forest Hills, Ruggles, Back Bay, and South Station, with a trip of about 10 minutes between Forest Hills and Back Bay.

Travelers who opt for the shuttle bus service are advised to allow additional transit time. "Riders using shuttles bus service should budget ample extra travel time. For example, a rider travelling to Downtown Crossing from Forest Hills should budget at least an additional 30 minutes of travel in addition to their regular commute," the MBTA outlined. Transit Ambassadors and staff will also be positioned to provide guidance and assistance during this period.

Passengers can get the latest service updates by subscribing to T-Alerts or following @MBTA on Twitter. Updated information will also be posted on in-station signs and announced publicly during the service interruption.
