
A McMinn County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a vehicle accident yesterday afternoon while transporting an arrestee to jail. The crash occurred on Ingleside Avenue in Athens, Tennessee, around 12:30 p.m., when another vehicle reportedly pulled out in front of the deputy’s car, Sheriff Joe Guy said. A statement obtained by WVLT-TV included a photo showing the patrol car with deployed airbags and the other vehicle overturned near a stop sign.
Sheriff Guy confirmed via social media that all individuals involved were taken to a local hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries. “Our prayers are with all involved,” he said, as reported by WATE. The incident is under investigation to determine the circumstances of the crash and establish any potential responsibility.
The specific condition of the deputy and the arrestee has not been publicly detailed beyond reports of minor injuries. Eyewitness accounts at the scene assisted with the immediate response and assessment. Sheriff Guy noted that there was relief the incident did not result in more serious harm.
