A burglary on Christmas day in the 500 block of Weakley Avenue has Memphis police reaching out for public assistance. According to the Memphis Police Department, a suspect gained unauthorized access to a business property by first cutting through a fence at 6:00 p.m. The individual then proceeded to forcibly remove the locks from containers with a bolt cutter and made away with tools.
Further complicating matters, this was not a singular act of theft but rather the beginning of a pattern as the perpetrator, emboldened by initial success, returned to the crime scene last Saturday, once again entering the business and this time, reportedly, stealing varied property, the suspect, who has been caught in the act on security cameras, remains at large and unidentified as of this report. In a call to action, Memphis Police are urging anyone who may have information about the individual or the incidents to contact Crime Stoppers, offering anonymity and potentially a cash reward for tips that lead to an arrest.
The police department has taken to social media and local outlets to disseminate images of the suspect taken from the surveillance footage. "Officers were advised that the suspect had cut a hole in the fence and made entry onto the business property," detailed the initial police report obtained by MPD.
