A U.S. Coast Guard officer stationed in Miami Beach has been arrested and charged with false imprisonment and battery/domestic violence, following a domestic incident last Monday in Homestead. The officer, identified as 25-year-old Alain Carvajal, was accused of being aggressively confrontational with his wife, who reported the encounter to the local authorities. According to the victim's account, Carvajal began by yelling and calling her derogatory names, escalating to a physical altercation where he allegedly grabbed her in a bear hug to prevent her from leaving. The incident led to a visible bruise on the victim's hip, as reported by NBC Miami.
Following the complaint, Carvajal, a member of the USCG Southeast District, failed to immediately present himself to the officers at the residence, only turning himself in at the Homestead Police Department last Thursday. Details from the arrest report, highlighted by Local10, reveal that the victim had recorded the encounter, pleading with Carvajal to release her. After his subsequent arrest, Carvajal faced a bond court judge who mandated he maintain distance from his wife. His arraignment is set for February 17th before Miami-Dade County Circuit Judge Carlos Gamez.
Another member of the USCG, Bryan Dufault, 32, found himself in legal trouble for a separate incident that occurred last Saturday. He was arrested for operating a motorcycle under the influence and crashing into a Mustang in Miami. Dufault is currently dealing with charges related to DUI and DUI damage to property. The USCG has verified that both Carvajal and Dufault are employed by the agency, which has promised a diligent inquiry into the allegations but refrains from providing further comment while the investigations are active, according to both NBC Miami and Local10.
