According to WSVN, the vote, initially taken in September without public announcement, has been criticized for potentially violating Florida's Sunshine Laws, leading to a judge issuing a temporary injunction stopping the transfer of the land.
In a move to rectify past grievances, the board has opened up the floor to public commentary, albeit with certain restrictions to apparently streamline the process. According to information obtained by WSVN, members of the community are encouraged to submit written requests via email if they wish to marry their voice with the throngs expected to descend upon the board meeting, which is welcoming in-person sign-ups as well.
The tract of land in question, nearly three acres along Biscayne Boulevard, is currently a Miami Dade College parking lot adjacent to the iconic Freedom Tower. The re-vote, which takes place amid stern legal scrutiny, is set to occur at the Hialeah campus of Miami Dade College, starting at 8 a.m., as reported by NBC Miami.
Voices of opposition have been vocal, with Ana Sofia Pelaez, Executive Director of the Miami Freedom Project, having previously expressed her concerns by stating, "I don’t think there’s any question that the current president of the United States has been very vocal about his views on immigration. His policies have felt bad," according to an interview with WSVN.
