As the city prepares to ring in the new year, the Department of Solid Waste has announced that it will be business as usual — no holiday breaks for garbage, bulky trash, and recycling services on New Year’s Day. Miami residents should take note that if their waste collection day falls on a Thursday, the services, including those on the 1st and 3rd Thursday recycling schedule, will go ahead as planned, according to a notice on the official City of Miami website.
Setting out waste accurately is crucial; residents are advised to place their recycling and trash curbside the evening before collection, making sure all materials must be on the public right-of-way and positioned at least five feet away from objects including, but not limited to poles, fences, mailboxes, or parked vehicles, ensuring no interference with the pickup process.
City officials also remind that the Mini Dump Facility at 1290 N.W. 20th Street in Miami will remain open on the holiday, welcoming residents from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon with proof of residency required for dumping. It's a convenience for those who need to dispose of excess waste on a day typically reserved for celebrations and new beginnings. For those with lingering questions or in need of further details, the city has made resources available, as customer service lines at (305) 960-2801 or through the 3-1-1 call system are ready to address concerns.
