Mid-Missouri drivers should expect traffic changes and possible delays starting December 8. According to MoDOT, highway maintenance and construction projects in the region are scheduled to begin, weather permitting. Lane closures are likely, so travelers are encouraged to plan ahead for potential commuting disruptions.
One of the major projects in Boone County involves the closure of the Route K and Old Plank Road intersection for roundabout construction. Traffic will be detoured via South Sinclair Road and West Southampton Drive. In Columbia, pedestrians may encounter temporary closures along Route TT while upgrades take place between Yorkshire Drive and Fairview Road. These projects are part of broader infrastructure work in the region, which also includes ongoing activities such as mowing, pothole repairs, and pavement maintenance across all counties.
Travel in the region is also affected by the ongoing Improve I-70 Program, which will result in both intermittent and long-term lane closures on sections of I-70 as the project continues toward its planned completion in 2027. Meanwhile, U.S. Route 54 in Camden County is undergoing pavement widening, expected to continue through spring 2026. The work has shifted traffic patterns and temporarily removed the center turn lane, impacting drivers along the route.
Drivers using Route 63 in Columbia should be aware of interchange improvements at Route AC (Grindstone Parkway), which include the closure of Lenoir Street for the duration of construction. Additional bridge rehabilitation projects between U.S. Route 63 and Route D in Phelps County are also underway, with various closures and detours in place. These projects are part of MoDOT’s ongoing efforts to improve the region’s transportation infrastructure.
MoDOT notes that smaller projects are also underway, including culvert replacements in Callaway County and roadside work in Maries County, with one lane open while work is in progress. Full details on these activities are available on MoDOT’s website. Motorists are encouraged to drive cautiously in work zones, reduce speed, move over for construction crews and equipment, and always keep phones down and seat belts fastened.
