As the year winds down, the City Council of Milton held its final meeting, where young champions were celebrated and a fond farewell was bid to Councilmember Andrea Verhoff. The gathering today saw the 8th Grade Milton Eagles, a youth football team, honored for their state championship, reflecting an impressive season, according to a statement obtained by the City of Milton's website. The Eagles, who had a 40-21 victory over Carrolton, have made their way to the state title game for three consecutive years, boasting a 33-2 record during this span.
In the same vein, the Council said goodbye to Andrea Verhoff, a member since January 2022, who has contributed her technologically savvy and risk management insights throughout her tenure. She did not seek re-election. Councilmember Andrea Verhoff has been a long-time, involved community member and volunteer, detailed the City of Milton's website, praising the efforts she made for the advancement of the local community. In addition to these moments of recognition, the consent agenda covered routine items such as the approval of financial statements and a selection of city-approved waste haulers for the coming year.
The agenda was not all ceremony and departures; there were substantive matters at stake as well. The Council entertained a number of development-related items, including an amendment to front and rear setback requirements in certain zoning districts and the introduction of standards for accessory food trucks, which currently only operate at city-sponsored events within Milton. All these moving parts come together in the Council's meticulously detailed agenda, reflecting an active body intent on improvement and governance, down to the finest details.
A key outcome of the meeting was a proposed resolution that would clearly define the Fulton County Development Authority’s role within Milton’s city limits. If approved, the measure would require the Authority to obtain explicit consent from the City before pursuing property acquisitions or tax incentive projects. Officials also discussed potential amendments to the project agreement for improvements at the Milton City Park & Preserve, including extending the deadline for completing the next phases of the development.
