Drivers should be aware that the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will be shifting the westbound lane of Interstate 70 near Warrenton starting next week, with lane closures and ramp shutdowns expected. On the night of Dec. 9, from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m., the westbound right lane between Wentzville Parkway and the Foristell Weigh Station will be closed. Motorists are advised to follow the detour and plan their travel accordingly, according to MoDOT.
Before the lane shift, MoDOT crews will conduct intermittent closures on Dec. 9 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. to clean the road surface. This step is necessary to remove residue from previous winter treatments and prepare the pavement for striping, as the work requires temperatures warmer than those expected overnight. Following the cleanup, a late-night operation will close the westbound right lane again to move barriers and apply new road markings. All lanes are scheduled to reopen the morning of Dec. 10, with the westbound right lane becoming the future shoulder.
Access to David Hoekel Parkway and the Foristell Weigh Station will also be affected, as the westbound entrance and exit ramps will close during the same period to allow for the safe repositioning of barrier walls. These changes are part of phase 2 of the I-70 project, which will add a third lane in each direction. Drivers can expect this configuration to remain in place until early summer 2026.
As per MoDOT, the work is part of the “Improve I-70 Warrenton to Wentzville Project,” which began with a contract awarded in November 2024. Roadwork is scheduled from this year through 2028 and is funded in part by Missouri’s fiscal year 2024 allocation of $2.8 billion. The project aims to expand I-70’s capacity across nearly 200 miles, from Blue Springs to Wentzville.
