The Mohave County Sheriff's Office is renewing efforts to solve a cold case dating back to the year 2000, when the severely decomposed body of an unidentified man was found by boaters on Lake Havasu. FOX 10 Phoenix reports the deceased, believed to be a white male with a mustache and brown hair, was between 20 and 40 years old and stood at 5-foot-10.
At the time his body was discovered, roughly three miles north of what is now known as Sandpoint Marina & RV Park, he was dressed in blue jeans, Reebok tennis shoes, and a T-shirt with a "Hot Boat Magazine" logo. Critical to the case are the personal effects found with the body: a Casio calculator watch, a utility knife, and a flashlight inscribed with "JKP." These items might be key in jog someone's memory about the man, whom authorities believed had been dead for about a month before the discovery. According to the sketch released by the Maricopa County Medical Examiner’s Office in January 2001, which yielded no successful leads at the time, the Mohave County Special Investigations Unit is now appealing to the public once more for any information that could aid in identification.
The ongoing investigation has yet to determine the cause of death for the unidentified man, an element that remains just as elusive as his name. AZ Family reminds anyone with information related to the case to reach out to the SIU unit at 928-753-0753 ext. 4408, referencing report 00-026283. The call from law enforcement represents not just an ask for closure, but a plea for justice in a story left untold for over two decades.
