Officer Chase Hale, who was the first to arrive, did not hesitate to immediately take control of the disaster site, a move that expertly facilitated the efficient arrival and operation of emergency medical services. His foresight in keeping access routes clear proved to be invaluable in what could have been an even more calamitous situation. Following his lead, officers Jacob Berti and Reese Harper were credited with delivering direct patient care. "Together, they applied a life-saving tourniquet to a patient with a severe leg injury—a decision that ultimately saved her limb," exclaimed the police department's post on the lifesaving intervention provided by these officers.
The value of Berti's additional training as an EMT became apparent as their combined efforts resulted in the stabilization of patients during those precious first moments after the crash. While the teamwork displayed by the entire response team was laudable, these three officers were specifically highlighted for their swift and decisive actions that directly impacted the lives saved that day.
In recognition of their extraordinary commitment to duty, the Mt. Juliet Police Foundation has backed the Lifesaving Award with a monetary reward. "Please join us in recognizing these officers for their outstanding efforts and dedication," the post urged, acknowledging the service that went above and beyond the call of duty. As the community continues to process and heal from the traumatic experience, the actions of Officers Hale, Berti, and Harper stand as a testament to the potential for humanity to answer calamity with skill, composure, and care.
