An emotional reunion ensued after a Mt. Lookout couple's dog, Dolly, was recovered following the theft of their vehicle last Saturday night in Norwood. The two-year-old longhaired dachshund was in the car, which was left running and locked, as the owner stepped away for a moment to pick up a pizza from Donatos Pizza at Rookwood Commons & Pavilion, according to a LOCAL12 news.
According to LOCAL12, the owner, Jimmy Hermann, initially thought that the key fob inside the establishment would prevent the car from being driven away, an assumption that proved incorrect. WLWT reported that Olivia Molina, Hermann's wife, had posted an urgent plea on Facebook after the vehicle, a white 2024 Volkswagen Tiguan, and Dolly went missing around 8:11 p.m. The car was later found in East Price Hill, but without Dolly inside.
Community efforts played a significant role in locating the missing pet. One individual employed a drone in the search for the canine on a frigid Sunday morning, as documented in the LOCAL12 report. The search culminated in East Walnut Hills, where Molina's brother, acting on a social media tip, found Dolly on a sidewalk, dirty and shivering but safe.
"A massive thank you to every friend, family member, and all of the kind strangers who helped us look & spread the word," Molina expressed in a Facebook post after the ordeal, as cited by WLWT. Meanwhile, Norwood police's investigation into the vehicle theft continues, with no arrests reported yet. A hectic car chase earlier Saturday, involving another stolen vehicle, led officers on a prolonged pursuit across state lines, ending in Clifton with a disabled car, as per a statement obtained by WCPO.
The couple expressed their overwhelming gratitude for the community's assistance during the stressful time, "That was just crazy that everybody was kind of on the lookout for her, and we felt compelled to come out and say thanks to everybody for showing us the support," Hermann told LOCAL12. The resilience of a community shines through in times of unexpected trials, illustrating that even in theft and loss, solidarity can emerge to restore that which has trembled on the brink of being forever lost.
