Murfreesboro was the site of two separate traffic incidents last weekend that culminated in the tragic death of one individual and injuries to several others. The Murfreesboro Police Department reported on their official website that the two accidents occurred on Sunday.
The early morning of that fateful day witnessed a severe collision on Old Fort Parkway by the Interstate 24 overpass. A 64-year-old woman, Deborah Hensel, fatally crashed her vehicle into a halted 2026 Ford F-350 at around 8:14 a.m. Hensel, unfortunately, was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 27-year-old driver of the Ford suffered injuries and was then released after receiving treatment at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital. As a result of the accident, there was an extensive road closure encompassing the overpass and all adjoining I-24 ramps while the investigation was in progress, as detailed on Murfreesboro's official site.
Later that same afternoon, the second incident disrupted the peace of Veterans Parkway at Armstrong Valley Road. Per the police account, at approximately 2:21 p.m., the driver of a 2015 Toyota Corolla failed to observe a red light, initiating a chain-reaction that left multiple vehicles and their occupants in distress. The Corolla struck a 1998 Chevrolet 1500 pickup, which subsequently collided with an SUV and a Jeep that were stationary at the traffic signal, as mentioned on the city's website.
As a consequence of this second collision, two individuals from the Chevrolet 1500 required emergency airlift to a hospital for their injuries, where they were listed in stable condition. The Murfreesboro Police Department's Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT) are currently investigating the specifics of these two separate tragedies, looking to reconstruct the moments leading to them and to provide clarity and closure to those affected.
