At the recent Tennessee Highway Safety Office's Middle Tennessee Holiday Network Meeting, two Murfreesboro Police Department officers received accolades for their contributions to road safety. According to a social media post from the Murfreesboro TN Police Department, Officer Eric Renfroe and Officer Leandrea Scott-Harris were distinguished with top THSO Traffic Safety Awards for their diligent efforts.
Receiving the Region 3 Officer of the Year title, Officer Renfroe was recognized for being proactive within the MPD Traffic Unit. Renamed for leading the Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT), Officers from 22 counties throughout the Middle Tennessee Region watched as Renfroe, who spends about a month monitoring a location, before he was able to address a persistent traffic violator driving recklessly in a BMW during the morning rush hour. He ultimately "issued a citation" after witnessing the driver's behavior, the department highlighted.
In another commendation, Officer Scott-Harris was bestowed with the Seat Belt Enforcement Award. She has dedicated her efforts towards citing those neglecting the use of seat belts and concurrently educating them on the inherent dangers. Following her role in traffic enforcement, Scott-Harris effectively transitioned into the School Safety Division as a school resource officer, promoting safety education within the educational environment.
Alongside the accolades for the Murfreesboro officers, "several other officers, deputies, and state troopers" were also honored at the event, which was hosted at the Tennessee Fire Training Service and Codes Enforcement Academy in the Deason community.
