The capture of Domingo Sunun, the Nashville man facing a slew of serious charges, including child rape, in Guatemala, marks a notable development in an international manhunt. After absconding to Central America to elude prosecution, the 46-year-old was arrested by local authorities with the assistance of the FBI.
As reported by WSMV, Sunun came under investigation by the Metro Nashville Police Department's Youth Services detectives in 2021. He faced allegations of the rape and sexual assault of four young girls. Sunun is currently in custody in Guatemala, on indictment for multiple counts of aggravated child rape, child rape, and aggravated sexual battery.
According to FOX17, Sunun is under indictment on three counts of aggravated child rape, four counts of child rape, and five counts of aggravated sexual battery. The indictments followed a thorough investigation by Youth Services into Sunun's alleged abuse of four girls related to him, prompting a grand jury to bring charges against him.
News 2 provided further details from the investigation, as WKRN reported on the case in September 2021, highlighting that Sunun allegedly committed multiple rapes against three children under the age of 12 since 2017. After the investigation commenced, the accused managed to leave the country, but thanks to collaborative efforts between the FBI and Central American authorities, he was captured two days before Christmas. Plans are underway for his extradition, expected to happen in early 2026.
