Early this morning, an incident brought Opa-locka to a standstill when a Tri-Rail train collided with a vehicle stuck on the tracks, but, remarkably, no injuries were reported. According to Local 10, the crash occurred around 6:30 a.m. at the crossing of Ali Baba Avenue and Northwest 22nd Avenue; Miami-Dade Fire Rescue confirmed the lack of injuries, and traffic, which suffered delays for several hours along State Route 9 and 22nd Avenue, has since resumed its normal flow.
Opa-locka police disclosed to Local 10 that the female driver of the gray Honda Accord and her passenger found themselves ensnared by the traffic and while they attempted to cross the tracks before the arrival of the train, could not clear them in time, the two managed to exit the vehicle before it was struck. The harrowing experience left the driver and passenger shaken but unharmed.
Chronicles of the incident revealed the Honda Accord in a state of disarray, with windows shattered and airbags deployed, as captured by 7News cameras at the scene. People were seen close to the wreckage using their cellphones, yet it remains unclear if they were the vehicle's occupants; police are continuing their investigation into the specifics of the crash.
In the aftermath, Tri-Rail reported delays affecting a school train, specifically Train P608, as mentioned in a post found on their social media platform X - the schedules took a hit with the early morning disruption, travelers were caught in the unexpected pause of their journey as the event slowly unfolded and the authorities painstakingly worked to clear the remnants of the unfortunate encounter, meanwhile roads near the crash site were temporarily closed by officers but have been reopened for the public to traverse.
