Calling all eco-warriors and green thumbs in Norman! The City of Norman Environmental Control Advisory Board (ECAB) has officially rolled out the call for nominations for the esteemed 2025 James O. Harp Environmental Recognition Award. If you know someone whose dedication to the environment deserves some overdue spotlight, you're in luck because submissions are open until January 31, 2026. Norman's government website puts all the relevant information at your fingertips, just a click away.
"Norman has a wonderful history of community involvement and service from many dedicated and hardworking volunteers," Michele Loudenback, the Manager of the Division of Environmental Sustainability & Resiliency, told the City of Norman Environmental Control Advisory Board. Working tirelessly, these folks roll up their sleeves to protect our shared environment, away from the limelight, fostering a greener future for us all –- and it's high time they got a nod for their work.
Since its inception in 2021, the award has gone to several illustrious environmental champions, including James O. Harp, the award's namesake and first honoree. The ECAB commemorates individuals like Amanda Nairn and Cathy Bowden, who have shouldered the responsibility of safeguarding Norman's natural resources, helping their community breathe easier.
"This award is a way to recognize those who are often behind the scenes, making sure our resources area available for us all now and into the future," Loudenback said, as recounted by the City of Norman Environmental Control Advisory Board.
