A serious collision between a motorcycle and another vehicle in northwest El Paso sent at least one person to the hospital with major injuries Wednesday morning, according to police. Emergency crews rushed to the scene as the El Paso Police Department's Special Traffic Investigations team moved in to document the crash, gather evidence, and speak with shaken witnesses. Officials have not released any names or a precise location beyond confirming the wreck happened in the city's northwest area.
The incident was first reported by KFOX14, which noted that Special Traffic Investigations responded and that officers described the injuries as serious. KFOX14 also stressed the case is still developing, with more details expected as detectives sort through what happened.
What Special Traffic Investigators Do
The El Paso Police Department's Special Traffic Investigations unit is called in for the worst kinds of crashes, including fatal and life-threatening collisions, and handles the technical side of reconstructing the scene. That work includes mapping out vehicle paths, collecting physical evidence, and taking detailed statements from witnesses and drivers. The department's procedures manual states that "STI will investigate all traffic fatalities" and that the unit is alerted whenever a death has occurred or could be imminent, at which point Special Traffic Investigations takes command of the scene. The El Paso Police procedures manual notes that the unit is available around the clock for serious incidents.
Investigation Underway
So far, police have not said whether speed, impairment, or any other specific factor might have contributed to the crash, and there were no immediate reports of any arrests. While the scene remained active, KFOX14 reported that investigators were combing through the area for evidence and continuing to interview witnesses. Authorities are asking anyone who saw what happened, or who has relevant information to speak up so they can piece together the moments leading up to the collision.
