A 19-year-old Norwood resident has been taken into custody in connection with a fatal assault that also took place in Norwood, a suburban town just outside of Boston. Isaiah Pierre-Mike was arrested this past Monday on charges including manslaughter and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, as informed by the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office, reported by Boston.com. The victim, identified as 25-year-old Anton C. Dowling of Boston, was initially thought to have died from a gunshot wound, but an autopsy later revealed the cause of death to be injuries from a sharp object.
Pierre-Mike is slated for arraignment at Dedham District Court today. The nature of the conflict, or how the two men may have known each other, has not yet been disclosed by police, with Norwood Police assuring the public that there's no cause for concern regarding safety. The incident took place at a residence on Hoyle Street, which is listed as Pierre-Mike's home address according to the DA's statement, NBC Boston highlighted.
Details surrounding the events leading up to the assault remain scarce as an active investigation is conducted by Massachusetts State Police alongside Norwood Police and the District Attorney’s office. A 911 call on Saturday afternoon had summoned Norwood police to 9 Hoyle Street, where Dowling was found with critical injuries and later transported to a local hospital in Needham, as noted by Hoodline. Despite the initial reports of a shooting, officials later clarified the injuries were from a sharp object.
While local authorities ensure residents there is no ongoing threat, the loss reverberates through the town, with many awaiting further details as the case unfolds. Norwood police, under direction of Chief Christopher Padden, continue to work closely with state level investigators in mapping out the precise sequences that led to the tragedy.
