Oakland’s small but mighty beer bar and bottle shop The Good Hop is heading into its final round. The Telegraph Avenue fixture in Uptown will close at the end of the month after 11 years in business, with its last night of service set for New Year’s Eve. Regulars get one last weekend to raise a glass before the doors shut for good.
According to The Oaklandside, the bar announced the news on Instagram, saying it had faced the same insurmountable challenges that so many other small businesses have shared and that the owners just can’t swing it anymore. The post outlined plans for a closing party tomorrow followed by a New Year’s Eve send-off, with final service scheduled for that night.
Owners and Recent Sale
Founder Melissa Myers opened The Good Hop in 2014, building a loyal following around its tap list and bottle selection. She sold the business in late 2024 to longtime bartender Adam Clark and regular Monica White, according to Berkeleyside. At the time, the new owners said they intended to keep the bar’s neighborhood focus and beer program intact, framing the transition as a buyout by familiar faces rather than a reinvention of the space.
Part of a Wider Wave of Closures
The Good Hop’s shutdown slots into a broader year-end wave of restaurant and bar closures around the Bay Area. Eater SF recently listed the bar among other long-running spots calling it quits. Across industry coverage, owners frequently cite rising operating costs, a sluggish post-pandemic recovery and lease pressures as recurring reasons for closing. For many Oakland neighbors, losing The Good Hop is less about the taps themselves and more about watching a well-worn third place disappear.
Final Nights and Next Steps
As reported by The Oaklandside, The Good Hop has lined up a Saturday closing party and a New Year’s Eve bash for its final night of service. The bar’s Instagram post asked followers to keep an eye on that account for any schedule updates. With last call coming on New Year’s Eve, the shop will cap its 11-year run on Telegraph Avenue at the end of the month.
