On Christmas Eve, an off-duty Atlanta Police officer shot an armed man at The Commons apartment complex, formerly known as Allen Hills or Allen Temple, during a dramatic confrontation that unfolded in northwest Atlanta. Police say the incident, which occurred around 11:45 p.m., began when the officer, working an extra job at the location, heard gunshots and was alerted by two individuals to a man chasing and allegedly shooting at a woman, as reported by FOX 5 Atlanta.
After locating the suspect, who was reportedly armed, the law enforcement official issued multiple commands to drop the weapon, but when the suspect failed to comply, the officer responded by discharging their firearm, striking the suspect. Information confirmed by 11Alive, subsequently, other officers arrived and provided medical assistance to the wounded man, who was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The condition of the woman involved in the initial altercation has not been disclosed, nor has it been confirmed whether she sustained any injuries. As part of the procedure for such incidents, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken the lead on this case, which was reaffirmed during a press conference by Deputy Chief Prenzinna Spann, who also mentioned they are still investigating the initial shooting reported to the officer, but no additional victims were found on the scene.
Details on the suspect's condition following the shooting are currently pending. Crime scene tape was seen stretching across parts of the apartment complex, specifically near Building 2931, where officers concentrated their investigation along an embankment as well as around a nearby dumpster where clothing was spotted within the cordoned-off area.
