In a devastating turn of events, Darci Lambert, 24, and Jorden McGuire, 34, are now facing First Degree Murder charges, alongside two counts of animal cruelty, in the death of their 2-year-old daughter after a dog mauling incident at their Oklahoma City home, as reported by the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office.
The announcement came down from the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office citing Lambert and McGuire's flagrant neglect in the care of their child and their inability to prevent the fatality despite knowledge of the threat posed by the malnourished dog, Oklahoma City police discovered the child on November 18, after they arrived in response to an emergency call and found her already succumbed to injuries from the attack, subsequently, four dogs, three appearing malnourished, were seized from the property along with two bearded dragons.
Oklahoma County District Attorney, Vicki Zemp Behenna, described the situation as "unspeakably tragic," emphasizing Lambert and McGuire's "complete disregard for the health, safety, and welfare of their child," a sentiment echoed by a grim narrative of preventable danger and ultimate loss. Revised charges were filed after the gruesome details of the case were examined by prosecutors, with the sentencing for First Degree Murder potentially leading to life imprisonment, or life without the possibility of parole, as per the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office.
Lambert and McGuire, currently held on a $1 million bond, had prior warning signs; evidence indicates that the same dog had attacked their child before this fatal incident, now they are both presumed innocent until proven guilty, as per the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office, but their actions preceding the event hint at a grotesque level of negligence, one cannot help but question how those entrusted with care can so thoroughly fail to shield from harm.
