As the holiday season wraps up, Oklahoma City residents are given an eco-friendly option to bid farewell to their live Christmas trees. According to a recent announcement by the City of Oklahoma City., locals can recycle their trees into mulch from Dec. 26 through Jan. 15 by dropping off their unflocked, undecorated trees at selected sites.

Two designated locations are set for this green initiative: Will Rogers Park and Wheeler Park. At these sites, trees can be transformed into the mulch, which is available for pick up by residents—provided they bring their own shovels and containers for transport. This program not only offers an opportunity to reduce the endings of these seasonal trees as landfill waste but also to enrich local gardens with the mulch that helps conserve water and protect plant roots during the colder months, as reported by the City of Oklahoma City.

For those not keen on mulching, the city's Solid Waste services offer an alternate route. Residential customers with curbside trash and bulky waste pickup can set their natural or artificial trees at the curbside for collection with other bulky items. As outlined by the City of Oklahoma City, trees should be placed curbside no later than 6 a.m. on the assigned monthly bulky waste collection day, avoiding any potential obstructions.

Residents should not place bagged trash outside Big Blue carts or next to bulky items, as this can lead to extra charges. Anyone needing another cart can request one on the city’s utilities website. The City of Oklahoma City also offers a Christmas tree disposal program to help residents dispose of trees in an easy and responsible way.
