Oklahoma City drivers should prepare for multiple roadwork projects expected to continue into this year through 2026. The Oklahoma Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced several construction projects across the region that will temporarily impact traffic. For example, eastbound SH-152/Airport Rd. at MacArthur Blvd. experienced lane narrowing last night due to sign installations, and the eastbound I-44 on-ramp from 74th St. is closed as part of a corridor widening project, affecting traffic through the fall.
Traffic on US-62 near Harrah has been reduced to one lane, with alternate signals controlling flow until the evening of December 14. Eastbound and westbound I-40 will also be limited to two lanes in each direction between I-240 and Town Center Dr. in Midwest City. Lane shifts and intermittent ramp closures are expected throughout the year, requiring caution due to limited shoulders and merge distances, with suggested detours via I-240 and US-62/N. 23rd St. Additionally, accessibility has improved as Anderson Rd. has reopened, along with the I-40 on- and off-ramps at this location.
Several interchanges are also undergoing construction. On I-240 at I-35, lane closures are expected to continue through this year. Crossroads Blvd. is limited to a single lane in each direction, and the S.E. 74th St./I-240 Service Rd. is scheduled to remain closed until spring 2026. On I-44, ramps at N.W. 10th St. will be closed until summer 2026 for a City of Oklahoma City bridge project. Additionally, eastbound and westbound I-40 will be reduced at I-44 nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. through the fall, according to ODOT.
Several major roads in the area will continue to experience lane narrowing or closures through this year until 2026. This includes I-35 between Memorial Rd. and US-77/2nd St. in Edmond; SH-4 from Wilshire Blvd. to SH-3/NW Expressway; SH-9E near US-77 in Norman; US-77; SH-66 at US-81 in El Reno; and SH-37/S.E. 4th St. in Moore. These projects involve bridge replacements, intersection expansions, and resurfacing to improve safety and traffic flow. Delays are expected, and drivers are advised to plan alternate routes, especially during high-traffic events such as home football games or major travel periods.
Travelers and residents are advised to check the ODOT Traffic Advisory regularly for the latest updates on ongoing construction projects and to plan for additional travel time or detours as Oklahoma City continues work to improve its transportation network.
