Residents of Oklahoma City can expect a shift in weather conditions today as the morning's overcast and breezy skies give way to sunshine. The National Weather Service in Oklahoma City reports that, while currently the temperature sits at a chilly 41 degrees Fahrenheit with a wind chill bringing it down to near freezing, conditions are forecasted to improve. A gradual clearing is anticipated, with the day's high nearing a brisk but more comfortable 43 degrees.
The current cold snap, driven by a north wind blowing at 22 mph and gusting up to 29 mph, is creating a chill in the air, one that grips the bones with a stark reminder that winter's grasp is upon us, however, things are looking up for the days ahead. According to the National Weather Service, tonight's primarily clear skies will lead to a low around 26 degrees. The breeze is expected to soften after midnight, providing some respite from the biting cold experienced earlier in the day.
Looking forward to the start of the week, Oklahomans can enjoy sunny skies on Monday with temperatures climbing to a higher, more agreeable 51 degrees. The early week forecast brings calmer winds, initially calm and then picking up from the south at 5 to 8 mph during the afternoon. The pleasant weather is set to continue into Tuesday and Wednesday, with daytime highs reaching 61 and 59 degrees, respectively, under mostly sunny skies.
The evening temperatures throughout the week will display less variance, with lows generally remaining in the 30s. Specifically, Monday night is expected to drop to around 36 degrees, with a south southwest wind at 8 to 10 mph, according to NWS Oklahoma City. Subsequent nights will follow a similar pattern with minimal cloud coverage anticipated.
The latter half of the week maintains the trend of sunny days, though temperatures may take a slight dip towards the weekend. Thursday should peak at 58 degrees, followed by a cooler Friday with a daytime high near 40 degrees. Overnight temps will see a significant drop, reaching lows in the mid to low 20s before a sunny Saturday with highs in the low 40s caps off the week.
