A shooting incident near Wheeler Historic Farm in Murray has resulted in one person being hospitalized on Tuesday evening. As reported by KUTV, a confrontation among a group of men at the northeast corner of the farm escalated into gunfire. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and received medical attention at a local hospital.
While the suspects remain at large, the Murray Police Department, led by spokesperson Kristin Reardon, has not released any descriptions beyond confirming they are male. Earlier, police action prompted a momentary shelter-in-place order, which has since been lifted, suggesting there is no continuing danger to the public. According to KSL, it is likely that the individuals involved were acquainted with one another.
An ongoing investigation into the shooting is being conducted by multiple law enforcement agencies, with K-9 units also being deployed to scour for evidence on the farm grounds. They are concurrently on the lookout for the remaining suspects who fled the scene. ABC4 reported that local employees were caught by surprise during the gunfire, mistaking the sounds initially for disturbances caused by the farm's animals.
Athena Owen, a farm employee, told ABC4, "I was in our milk house getting a bottle ready for our calf, Linda, and heard some loud banging." Initially brushing off the commotion as standard animal antics, she soon realized the gravity of the situation when she and another employee were advised to hide for safety. The police eventually led them to shelter in an ice house on the property until they were cleared to come out.
