The dense fog that enveloped Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday not only impeded the vision of those on the ground, but has also continued to wreak havoc yesterday, disrupting plans and schedules for thousands of travelers. FOX 5 Atlanta reported that over 1,000 flights were delayed and approximately 150 canceled throughout Sunday, with the majority of these being Delta Air Lines flights, leading to prolonged waits and an air of frustration amongst passengers both inside terminals and on the tarmac.

As Monday's daylight began the arduous task of piercing through the once impenetrable fog, the congestion at the airport had somewhat eased but not before tallying up to 293 delays and 145 cancellations by 12:15 p.m., Delta Air Lines bearing the brunt of this disarray operations began to normalize and skies cleared, airport officials had yet to provide a definitive timeline for when normality would be fully restored.

Additional setbacks occurred yesterday as the Federal Aviation Administration mandated "deicing" protocols for departing flights, a measure intended to ensure aircraft safety by removing any snow and ice accumulation that could jeopardize operations. Due to these precautions, Atlanta News First records a total of 146 cancellations and 320 flight delays as of 12:30 p.m. yesterday.

Passenger Detrich Waters, who expected to depart on an 8 a.m. flight to Dallas, said, "You always see people sitting around, and you wonder what they’re going through. Today’s my day," a statement he made following a disappointing encounter at the Delta counter after struggles with the airline's app. Echoing the experiences of many, he articulated that irrespective of his efforts, "They were like it wouldn’t have mattered anyway, all the flights had been canceled for the rest of the day, going to Dallas. All of them," Waters told Atlanta News First. While the FAA's ground stop from the previous day had been lifted shortly before 11 a.m., the airport continued to navigate the repercussions of the inclement weather that started on Sunday.
