A Palm Beach County science teacher is now facing charges following accusations of engaging in an unlawful sexual relationship with a student, according to local authorities. Elias Gordon Farley, 26, who taught at Donna Klein Jewish Academy, has been arrested and charged with two felony counts: unlawful sexual activity with a minor, and offense against a student by authority figures, as reported by CBS12 News.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said the relationship appeared to have evolved from conversations during the previous school year to more explicit communication, over the summer. The student disclosed to a teacher that sexual encounters with Farley started in September and occurred both on campus and at his apartment. This was later reported to the school administration on November 17., and Farley was suspended following the allegations.

In a statement, a spokesperson for Donna Klein Jewish Academy (DKJA) acknowledged the arrest of its former teacher, Elias Farley, on charges of alleged unlawful sexual activity with a minor, stating that he is no longer employed by the school and that DKJA is fully cooperating with law enforcement. The academy described the situation as difficult, emphasizing its commitment to student safety and its plan to provide necessary resources and support to the school community. The spokesperson added that due to the ongoing nature of the matter and privacy concerns, the school could not provide further details at this time.

The WPBF report elaborates that the student's allegations were supported by evidence which includes school security footage and explicit exchanges in Google Docs. Additionally, a search warrant executed at Farley's residence resulted in the recovery of items consistent with the victim's account, such as condom wrappers and bedding.

When approached by the authorities, Farley refrained from making a statement after being read his Miranda rights. The ongoing investigation has leveraged digital evidence obtained through a warrant to support the victim's allegations. Farley was booked into the Palm Beach County Jail on Wednesday, and, the investigation continues to move forward. The Sheriff’s Office has encouraged anyone with further information to reach out and contact them at 561-688-3000.
