As Christmas approaches, Peoria residents should take note of the amended holiday hours for city offices and local public amenities. According to an article published on December 22nd by the City of Peoria's official website, city offices are set to close early on Christmas Eve and remain closed through Christmas Day, reopening only after the weekend on December 29.
The Peoria Main Library, along with the Sunrise Mountain Library, will follow suit, with doors closing at noon on December 24. The facilities will not be available on Christmas Day, December 25, but will begin to serve the public again from 11 a.m. on Friday, December 26. It should be noted that the outside book drop is also inaccessible during the holiday closure.
The same early closure applies to the William L. Patena Community Center, which will shut down at noon on the day before Christmas. The center will be closed on Christmas Day, but plans to resume operations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on December 26. As for the Rio Vista Recreation Center, the hours differ slightly; it will remain open until 4 p.m. on December 24, close on December 25, and then reopen with extended hours from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. the following day.
For residents concerned about waste disposal during the festivities, the city website provides a specific page dedicated to the Holiday Trash Collection Schedule. The schedule is available to ensure residents can plan accordingly and avoid any inconvenience, as the regular trash collection services will be adjusted to accommodate the seasonal downtime. Peoria authorities ask the community to check this schedule to manage their waste and recycling needs over the holidays effectively.
While the festive season is often a time for relaxation and joy, it is accompanied by these small changes in public services that are essential to take into account. Peoria's holiday schedule adjustments ensure that city staff and community members alike are able to partake in the seasonal celebrations while maintaining the necessary functions of the community in a reduced capacity until the holiday period comes to a close.
