As the holiday season approaches, Phoenix city officials have announced adjustments to city services for Christmas, with schedule changes and service disruptions expected across major departments. Residents should plan ahead as Phoenix’s Solid Waste collection will not run on December 25. Collection schedules will shift by one day following the holiday: Thursday pickups will occur on December 26, and Friday pickups on December 27. The 27th Avenue and North Gateway transfer stations will close early at noon on December 24 and remain closed on December 25, according to the City of Phoenix.

The Public Works Customer Contact Center will close at noon on December 24 and remain closed on Christmas Day. While the center will be physically closed, residents can continue submitting service requests through the myPHX311 portal. The Contact Center will reopen at 7 a.m. on December 26, and residents needing assistance after the holiday can call 602-262-6251.

Phoenix Public Library branches will close at noon on December 24 and remain closed on December 25, though digital resources will remain available. Parks and Recreation facilities will operate on limited hours—open for four hours—on December 24 and close entirely on December 25. Parks and trails will remain open during regular hours, with visitors advised to follow safety guidelines before heading out.

Transportation services will see holiday schedule changes. Public transit, including bus and light rail, will follow a weekday schedule without Express or RAPID service on December 24 and will switch on December 25, with Customer Service closed. Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport advises travelers to book parking in advance, arrive early, and check with airlines for flight updates before heading to the airport.

Parking meters will operate as usual, enforced from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., including on weekends and holidays. Travelers should also note that REAL ID-compliant licenses and state IDs are required for airport access. For more information, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport directs visitors to their Travel ID page.
