Relief swept through a north Phoenix neighborhood as a missing Scarlet Macaw named Atlas was found safe just a short distance from home. According to FOX 10 Phoenix, the bird, which is free-flight trained and microchipped, took flight on Monday, around 2:30 p.m. near 43rd Avenue and Cactus Road.
The bird's owner, Debbie DeFrain, faced an anxious time after Atlas went missing, drawing concern from the neighborhood. Even though Atlas is a strong flier, getting a bird like him back can still be uncertain, as reported by FOX 10 Phoenix.
Atlas's propensity for free flight suggests a bond of trust with his owner, a testament to the training and affection behind their relationship. In a heartening turn, Yahoo News confirmed that Atlas was located less than a block away from his residence on Tuesday, effectively ending a search that could have stretched much wider given the macaw's powerful wings.
