Phoenix drivers should be aware of lane closures and detours this weekend, though full freeway shutdowns are not expected. Riggs Road will be closed at the Interstate 10 interchange until December 15, for bridge maintenance. ADOT recommends using Queen Creek Road as an alternative route.

Drivers on Interstate 17 should expect overnight lane reductions from yesterday through today, with traffic restricted to one lane in both northbound and southbound directions between State Route 74 (Carefree Highway) and Anthem Way for pavement work. On Loop 101 (Pima Freeway), lanes will be reduced to two between Shea Boulevard and Princess Drive as part of a widening project.

On eastbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway), the on-ramp at Alma School Road and the right lane between Alma School Road and Arizona Avenue will be closed tomorrow from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. During this work, crews will also reopen the eastbound off-ramp at Arizona Avenue. Drivers should remain alert for construction workers and equipment in the area.

Funding for these projects is partially provided through Proposition 400, a sales tax approved by Maricopa County voters in 2004. In 2024, voters approved Proposition 479, extending the tax to support future transportation projects. For updates on these and other roadwork projects, drivers can access ADOT’s Arizona Traveler Information at AZ511.gov or by dialing 511. Monitoring live highway conditions can help avoid traffic delays.
