The Phoenix Fire Department, together with Local 493, is wrapping up this year's Relationship By Objectives (RBO) meeting, a critical annual event hosted to discuss and shape the future of the department’s operations and objectives. The meeting, held on December 2nd, was characterized by its emphasis on collaborative planning and was marked by constructive dialogue between the various stakeholders – all with a common goal of refining the fire department's services.
As part of the RBO's longstanding tradition, members and leadership from the Phoenix Fire Department and the Phoenix Firefighters Association Local 493 came together at CCV Midtown to delve into current strategies, celebrate the successes of the past, and transparently navigate towards the objectives of the upcoming year. In this structured yet open platform, leaders and representatives coalesce, rooted in the understanding that a robust organization is a collective of empowered voices.
The discourse of this year’s meeting focused on key areas, notably enhancing operational efficiency and supporting the wellness of firefighters. According to an announcement, the attendees also committed to preserving the department's high service standards, which have long been recognized as a benchmark for excellence.
Looking ahead to 2026, the fire department, along with Local 493, has established a set of focused priorities. Improving staffing levels and updating technological tools for better communication within the department were pinpointed as critical objectives. In sustaining Special Operations, recognizing the vitality of EMT training and exploring shift schedule transformations, the department hopes to meet the challenges of the future while keeping the community's needs at the forefront.
These objectives, firmly rooted in the outcomes of the 2025 RBO, are anticipated to guide the Phoenix Fire Department in its continuous pursuit of operational and community service excellence. It is the culmination of these efforts that will, as intended, shape the future of the Phoenix Fire Department and ultimately influence how the organization serves and protects its community.
