It seems that PortMiami is setting the tone for seamless travel and trade, as evidenced by its banner year for cruise passengers and increase in cargo volumes. According to a recent press release, the port welcomed an impressive 8,564,225 cruise passengers during the Fiscal Year 2025. That's a notable 4.02% climb from the prior year and the highest annual passenger count in the port's history. Cargo operations don't lag behind, with the port achieving 1,115,058 TEUs, up from 1,089,443 TEUs the year before, marking the 11th consecutive year to exceed one million TEUs.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava pointed to strategic investments in infrastructure and technology as drivers behind this growth, the port's "operational efficiency and ensuring long-term competitiveness." Hydi Webb, PortMiami Director, and CEO stressed the importance of team dedication and strong industry partnerships, stating, "PortMiami's record performance across both cruise and cargo operations reflects the dedication of our entire team and the strength of our partnerships with the cruise industry, cargo carriers, and the business community," as mentioned on the Miami-Dade County website. These sentiments affirm that the port remains focused on facilitating economic growth while adapting to the market's demand for efficient and resilient services.
Looking forward, the port has announced a series of new cruise ship arrivals for the 2025-2026 season. Among the lineup are notable ships such as Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth and Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady setting sail in October 2025, and MSC Cruises’ Grandiosa taking off in December 2025. The stream of new vessels points to the port's persistent allure as a departure point for ocean voyages.
Inclusively, cargo operations aren't being left behind with ongoing infrastructure investments such as the completion of phase two of the Electric Rubber-Tired Gantry Crane Project. This advancement will bring the total number of eRTGs at South Florida Container Terminal to 18, allowing for higher stacking of containers and more efficient maneuvering within the yard. These developments highlight the port's commitment to handling the increasing demands of global trade. PortMiami, as recognized by its slogan of being the Cruise Capital of the World® and Cargo Gateway of the Americas, continues to play a significant role in the local economy contributing billions annually and supporting over 340,000 jobs.
