Yesterday evening's bike ride in Rancho Penasquitos turned fatal when a car struck a 60-year-old man on Salmon River Road, killing him at the scene, according to authorities.
The crash happened around 5:35 PM in the 12900 block of Salmon River Road in San Diego. Police say the bicyclist was pronounced dead where he fell. The driver, a 51-year-old woman behind the wheel of a 2019 Toyota Camry, was not injured.
According to ABC 10News, San Diego police said the cyclist had been traveling northbound along the right side of the lane when the Camry came up behind him and hit the rear wheel of his bicycle. Detectives with the department's Traffic Division are handling the case.
FOX 5 San Diego reports that the victim’s name has not yet been released. Investigators told the outlet they do not believe alcohol was a factor and noted that the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with officers.
