A Roslindale woman, Avagadra Lipson, 27, is currently facing multiple charges including assault and reckless operation of a motor vehicle after an incident in Beacon Hill, Suffolk District Attorney Kevin Hayden announced on Monday. According to the Suffolk District Attorney's office, Lipson was involved in a car accident and subsequently resisted arrest, dragging an officer with her car and causing injury.
On the evening of December 6, Lipson reportedly struck another vehicle with her Honda Accord. When approached by police, she refused to exchange information with the victim. The situation escalated when she was instructed by an officer not to move her vehicle, to which she responded by accelerating and dragging the officer, injuring his foot. Judge James Coffey has set her bail at $200 and scheduled a pre-trial hearing for January 20.
The Boston police later identified Lipson's vehicle near 3 Center Plaza and instructed her to exit. Despite being ordered multiple times, Lipson continued to move her vehicle, prompting an officer to draw his firearm in an attempt to apprehend her. After the car door was unlocked and Lipson removed from the vehicle, she kicked an officer in the chest and acted out aggressively, screaming and kicking inside the police cruiser.
DA Hayden stressed the gravity of the encounter, noting, "This disturbing set of facts indicates that police officers were placed into a dangerous situation by this defendant not once, but twice, within minutes. It's fortunate that there weren't more serious injuries," as noted by the Suffolk District Attorney's office. He highlighted the unpredictable risks law enforcement face regularly. Lipson has been charged and is being held accountable for her actions, reminded that all accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
