Following a high-speed pursuit in San Jose, police officers captured an armed robbery suspect with the help of aerial surveillance. The incident unfolded yesterday evening when Foothill Division Patrol Officers of the San Jose Police Department spotted a vehicle connected to an armed robbery earlier that day. Attempts to stop the vehicle led to a dangerous chase as the suspect fled at high speeds, disregarding traffic laws, and traversing sidewalks and residential property, according to an official social media post from the San Jose Police Department.
With the suspect's reckless maneuvers creating potential harm to the public, ground officers halted their pursuit, instead relying on AIR3, the police department's aerial support unit. The strategic decision allowed for a safer engagement as AIR3 maintained visual contact with the suspect from above. "With our eyes in the sky, Officers were able to swiftly locate and arrest the adult male suspect," the San Jose Police highlighted when discussing the collaboration between Patrol Officers and AIR3.
The suspect, whose name was not disclosed in the department's statement, had abandoned his vehicle and attempted to escape on foot before being apprehended.
