Following an anonymous tip received by the Santa Rosa Police Department, an 18-year-old Santa Rosa resident, Axel Silverio Guzman Palomino, has been arrested on multiple charges, including possession of an assault weapon and child endangerment. The Santa Rosa Police detailed in a social media post that the initial tip came through the “STOPit” app, which is used in Santa Rosa City Schools to report concerning behavior.
The photo provided in the tip showed three individuals holding firearms with their faces obscured. The SRPD's Gang Crimes Team promptly began investigating thoroughly, seeking to identify the subjects. On Tuesday, detectives served a search warrant at Guzman Palomino's residence on the 800 block of Aston Avenue. In the bedroom Guzman Palomino shares with his young son, officers found an AR-15 pistol, a .22 caliber rifle, a Glock 43 pistol, along with ammunition and a 3D printed pistol component. It is believed that at least one of these firearms was pictured in the submitted photo.
The SRPD has indicated that Guzman Palomino was present during the search and was subsequently arrested. His 2-year-old son was not home at the time and remains in the custody of his mother. Among the charges are possession of an assault weapon, child endangerment due to the unsafe storage of firearms, and possession of a non-serialized firearm.
Investigators have stated that there does not appear to be any connection to Montgomery High School, nor do they believe the weapons were ever present on school property.
