Scott Kerman has stepped down as the executive director of Blanchet House, the Portland-area nonprofit focused on serving those struggling with hunger, homelessness, and addiction, after a six-year tenure. FOX12 reported that Kerman expressed his departure as the closure of one of the most meaningful chapters of his life and conveyed his intention to continue contributing to the nonprofit sector amid challenging times.
Under his leadership, Blanchet House saw the strengthening of its core programs and an enhancement of its dedication to providing dignity and hospitality. Kerman, having left a lasting impression on the organization, will now be succeeded by Emily Coleman and Steve Cook, who have been announced as co-interim executive directors. KATU mentioned the nonprofit remains fully operational, continuing to serve meals and other services six days a week, while the Board of Directors ensures a smooth transition.
Kerman shared his reflections on his time at Blanchet House in a LinkedIn post, noting the demanding landscape that nonprofits operate within, marked by political volatility and economic uncertainty. According to a KOIN article, Kerman stated, This transition comes at a moment when the public good feels especially fragile, and he emphasized the need for the nonprofit sector to harness imagination and courage.
Coleman and Cook, now at the helm of Blanchet House as the co-interim directors, bring their respective expertise from program direction and strategic initiatives to the table. Kerman, in his own words, looks forward to supporting organizations and leaders who advocate for the underrepresented and build sustainable, humane systems. Points made in the press release and obtained by KOIN also highlighted the strong, talented team at Blanchet House that will carry the mission forward every day, serving the community steadfastly amidst the organizational change.
