Authorities are intensifying their search for Eric Andrew Smith, a 39-year-old man who has been missing since last Wednesday. Smith was last observed in the vicinity of Southwest 16th Street and Southwest 55th Avenue in Plantation, as reported by the Plantation Police Department yesterday. According to NBC Miami, Smith departed his residence via Uber to attend to errands and has not been seen since.
Plantation Police has issued a description of Smith as a 6-foot tall male, weighing about 185 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. He also has a distinctive scar on his neck, and, at the time of his disappearance he was wearing a pink or peach colored polo shirt, blue jeans, white shoes and was carrying a black backpack. Plantation Police also released a missing person alert with similar details on their official X page, urging anyone with information to come forward.
The situation grew more concerning after Smith's cellphone was discovered abandoned on the ground in Fort Lauderdale, raising questions about his whereabouts after he left the Uber vehicle. Despite the search efforts and the circulation of his image and description, there have been no confirmed sightings of Smith since he went missing. Community members and local authorities are asking for the public's assistance in locating Smith. Anyone with information about Smith's whereabouts is asked to call the Plantation Police Department at 954-797-2100, as mentioned on Instagram.
