Following the disturbance of gunfire that rippled across the backdrop of a community’s celebration, a second individual has been taken into custody in relation to the Picnic Day shooting in Davis. As reported by ABC10, the Davis Police Department has announced the arrest of 19-year-old Stephon Wayne Stroman of Sacramento, who faced an arrest warrant for firearm-related offenses and chose to negotiate his peaceful surrender to the authorities.
Stroman's apprehension is the latest development in the aftermath of the April 12 shooting at Community Park, which resulted in injuries to three individuals and trigged far-reaching concern, a reminder of violence's knack for intrusion even in the heart of celebration; this incident disrupted the city’s annual Picnic Day, which draws thousands to the college town. The first suspect, Joseph Allen Davis, also 19 and from Sacramento, had been arrested on May 23, with charges cascading from assault with a deadly weapon to several other firearm-related offenses, buttressed by an additional federal charge due to his status as a felon in possession of a firearm, as detailed by KCRA.
The first individual brought into custody, Davis was found with an illegal assault rifle that was uncovered during a search warrant being executed at his apartment; this piece of evidence tied him directly to the shooting, police noted. His standing as a convicted felon bolstered the severity of the allegations against him, as the weapon originated from Kentucky, thus layering his conduct with federal implications, with possible repercussions including a maximum of 15 years in prison and fines reaching a quarter of a million dollars.
