A senior man is in critical condition following a three-vehicle collision that disrupted morning traffic in Miami's Flagami neighborhood. Local 10 News reports that the 79-year-old was driving this morning when his car was involved in a crash at the intersection of Northwest Seventh Street and Northwest 31st Avenue. Miami Fire Rescue responded to the scene and transported the man to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center where he remains in critical condition.
The accident, which occurred early in the day, resulted in two other men sustaining injuries. A 35-year-old man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in a stable condition while the status of a 31-year-old also involved remains uncertain. The wreckage painted a chaotic picture, with one car hitting a utility pole and another breaching a green metal fence, ending up in what seemed to be a parking lot. A pickup truck also present at the scene added to the confusion, but its role in the incident was not clarified.
Traffic in a vicinity of the crash was snarled as lanes were blocked off to accommodate emergency services and investigators. Motorists were advised to seek alternate routes, with the recommendation of using the Julia Tuttle Causeway to circumvent the area.
Details regarding the cause of the accident are still under investigation by Miami police, with neither speed nor other contributing factors immediately disclosed. Meanwhile, NBC Miami's coverage of the incident confirmed that at least three blocks surrounding the crash site were shut down.
