
A deputy in southeast Shelby County was injured after a suspect's vehicle crashed into their patrol car during an attempted escape. Authorities responded to a call about multiple car break-ins at the City Place Apartment complex on Crestwyn Hills Drive and Forest Hill Irene Road at around 2 a.m. Sunday, per FOX13 Memphis article.
The situation intensified when the suspect, upon being discovered by deputies, began to flee, striking a deputy's vehicle, causing minor injuries to the law enforcement officer, who was subsequently treated on the scene by Shelby County Fire, as reported by Action News 5. Their stalled effort to elude capture prolonged as the driver continued moving through the complex, eventually encountered additional deputies, and when commands to stop were disregarded, a deputy discharged their firearm once towards the vehicle, said the SCSO.
In the ensuing investigation, the driver, identified as 47-year-old Jennifer Evans, was arrested and charged with multiple offenses, including aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer and child neglect. Given that her three juveniles and one other 17-year-old were in the car during the incident, according to WREG. The 17-year-old was also charged with burglary of a motor vehicle.
